Figr Identity alternatives: generate a design system inside Figma (2026)

Figr Identity's plugin now points users to the Figr AI web app. Here are the plugin-native alternatives for generating tokens, light and dark modes and components in Figma.

If Figr Identity isn't doing what it used to, you have two sensible paths. Follow Figr to its web app, Figr AI, which is where the team now puts its design system work. Or switch to a plugin that still generates the system directly inside Figma: Kigen, Foundation Studio, Semantix, Supa Design Tokens and Huekit all do that, with different scope and pricing. This guide compares them on what a Figr Identity user usually needs: tokens, light and dark modes, documentation and components.

What changed with Figr Identity

Figr Identity was one of the most used design system plugins on the Figma Community. Its listing showed 137,093 users on October 25, 2026, which says a lot about how many people wanted a one-click system.

The same listing now opens with a note that Figr's design system experience "has moved to our webapp". Further down, the maker is upfront: "Due to constant changes in Figma API, some features of the plug-in may not work properly." The plugin still covers the basics they list (color, typography, spacing, radius, stroke, effect and grid tokens, a component library you can apply them to, documentation, and AI generation of a starting visual language), but new updates go to Figr AI instead. The listing's last update was August 3, 2026.

None of that makes the plugin useless overnight. It does mean that if a feature breaks, a fix may not come to the plugin, so it's reasonable to look around before you start a new system with it.

Option A: move to Figr AI

Figr AI is a broader product than the plugin was. Its site describes importing your Figma screens or library, having the AI identify styles, tokens and components, organizing the result on Figr's own canvas, and then sending it to Figma (with Auto Layout and tokens wired up) or to code.

On Figr's pricing page (checked October 25, 2026):

PlanMonthly billingYearly billingNotes
Free$0$010 credits a month, 3 canvases, a "Limited Design System"
Starter$39/month$32/month200 credits a month, 3 full design systems
Max$149/month$124/month1,000 shared credits, up to 3 full-access seats
EnterpriseCustomCustomSSO, audit logs, custom setup

Pick this path if you want AI to read your existing screens and you're happy working partly outside Figma. It's the natural upgrade for people who liked Figr's AI generation specifically, and nothing in the plugin-only alternatives below does the screen-import part the same way.

Option B: stay inside Figma with another plugin

If what you valued was "open a plugin, pick colors, get variables and pages in my file", these are the plugins to look at. Everything in this table comes from each plugin's own listing or store page, as of October 25, 2026.

A few honest notes on reading that table:

  • Kigen is the closest free match for most Figr Identity users. It's updated often, has a long list of preset palettes (Tailwind, Material, Fluent, Radix, Carbon and more), and supports light and dark. The gap is components, which its listing still marks as coming soon.
  • Semantix generates the biggest semantic layer of the group and spells out its structure (numbered collections, primitives aliased into semantics). It's new and small, so expect fewer community answers if you get stuck.
  • Foundation Studio is a tidy, lightweight generator that also added support for free Figma accounts in a December 2025 update. It's labeled beta.
  • Supa Design Tokens is the deepest on color science and export formats, and the only one here sold as a one-time license with a published price range.

Where Huekit fits

Huekit is our plugin, so weigh this section accordingly. We built it to cover the parts of Figr Identity that most people used day to day, inside Figma:

  • Color scales from your brand colors, a preset (Tailwind, Radix, Material and others) or an editor theme like Dracula or Catppuccin, saved as Figma variables with Light and Dark modes.
  • Semantic tokens built on those scales, plus foundations for spacing, radius, sizes and typography.
  • Generated documentation pages and a components page with common UI elements (buttons, inputs, toggles, cards, badges, alerts and more) built as variants.
  • For existing files, our plugin can generate a system from the current document and offers Audit & Repair, which previews and then binds hard-coded values to tokens.
  • Export to JSON or a Tailwind config when developers need the values.

What it doesn't do: read your existing screens with AI the way Figr AI does, or host your system outside Figma. If those are the reasons you used Figr, the web app is the better fit.

How to switch without losing work

Your Figr-generated variables and styles are already in your Figma file, and they stay there when you stop running the plugin. So switching is mostly about deciding what to keep.

  1. Inventory what Figr created. Open the Variables tab and the local styles list. Note your collection names, how many modes they have, and which components in your library are bound to them.
  2. Duplicate the file. Run any new generator on the copy first. Generators create their own collections, and you don't want two sets of primary/500 in your production library.
  3. Compare the semantic layer. The names matter more than the values. If your components use Figr's token names, either keep those names in the new system or plan a rebind.
  4. Rebind, then delete. Point components at the new variables, check both modes, and only then remove the old collections. Deleting a collection disconnects every property that used it.
  5. Publish once. Publish the library after the rebind so consuming files update in one go.

FAQ

Does Figr Identity still work?

Its listing says the plugin "still works for the basics", but warns that some features may not work properly because of Figma API changes, and that new updates go to the Figr AI web app.

What replaced Figr Identity?

Figr AI, Figr's web app, where the team now builds its design system features. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 10 monthly credits and paid plans from $32 a month billed yearly.

Is there a free alternative to Figr Identity that runs in Figma?

Kigen's listing says everything is currently free, and it generates variables, styles, semantic colors and light and dark modes. Foundation Studio and Semantix list no paid tier either.

Which alternative also generates components?

Among the plugins compared here, Figr Identity and Huekit describe generated components. Kigen lists basic components as coming soon.

Will I lose my Figr tokens if I uninstall the plugin?

No. The variables and styles it created live in your Figma file. Uninstalling the plugin removes the tool, not the output.

Where to start

Duplicate the file where you used Figr Identity and write down the five token names your components use most. Then run one alternative on the copy, Kigen if you want to stay free, or Huekit from the Figma Community if you also want a components page, and compare the result against those five names before you change anything in production.
